Carter Olson, 11, Grand Forks, shot this buck in Kittson County during the snowy opening weekend of Minnesota's firearms deer season. The buck was Carter's largest to date, his dad, Brad  Olson, said, and they're having a shoulder mount made of the buck. Carter is in the fifth grade at J Nelson Kelly Elementary School in Grand Forks.

Daryl Lorenzen of St. Thomas, N.D., caught this 33-inch, 14½-pound walleye on the Rainy River. He kept the fish for mounting.

Chaz Dobias of Bemidji caught this 30¼-inch walleye on Union Lake near Erskine, Minn., and estimates the fish weighed 11 to 12 pounds. Dobias caught the fish on a live bait rig tipped with a creek chub in 35 feet of water.
